Robert Paul Schmidt, 82, of Emporia, Kansas, died Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia.
Robert Paul Schmidt was born May 8, 1930 in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Paul J. and Clara (Didde) Schmidt. Robert married Nancy Roberts on August 16, 1950 in Emporia, she passed away in Emporia on October 12, 1986. He then married Bonnie McCabe Turney on October 30, 1987 in Emporia. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include: daughter, Pamela Enright (Alan) of Aurora, Colorado; stepdaughter, Charla Charlsen (Bill) of Newton, Kansas; stepsons, Wade A. Turney of Topeka, Kansas and Brent A. Turney (Linda) of Emporia; brother, Francis Schmidt of Mooney Creek, Kansas; sisters, Mary Louise Weishaar of Mooney Creek, and Carol Ann Vaughn of Caney, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Schmidt, Jr.; and two brothers, Harold Schmidt and Donald Lee Schmidt.
Robert served in U.S. Navy, and was the former Owner and President of Didde Office Supply & Printing in Emporia, and Owner and President of Midwest Business Service in Emporia until his retirement in 1998.
Robert was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia; Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia; Knights of Columbus, Leo Council #727; Kiwanis Club; lifelong member of the International Printing Craftsmen; and member and past president of the Emporia Country Club.
Cremation is planned. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 19, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. Inurnment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Emporia at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 19, 2012. Military Honors will be presented by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Emporia.
The Rosary will be recited at 6:30 P.M. Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. The family will receive friends following the Rosary Sunday Evening at the funeral home from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emporia Friends of the Zoo, Alzheimer’s Association, or the charity of the donor’s choosing, and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
