Robert D. Stockton, Emporia, Kansas, died at his home Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the age of 91.
Robert David Stockton was born in Los Angeles, California, on May 6, 1923, the son of Frank W. and Miriam A. (Pike) Stockton. He married Ruby Marguerite Ambrose in Jefferson City, Missouri on May 19, 1945. She died December 6, 2010.
Among surviving family members are his daughter, Janet E. McBee, and her husband, Martin, Kansas City, Missouri; brother; William P. Stockton, Nampa, Idaho; sisters, Frances Napolitano, Newport Coast, California, and Grace Carlson, Redlands, California; and two grandchildren, Amanda and Elizabeth McBee.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, his parents, and a brother, James Stockton.
He was a wildlife biologist for the U.S. Forest Service for 35 years. During that time he was posted to a number of national forests across the country, including Clark National Forest, Rolla, Missouri. He retired in January of 1987 from the Gogebic National Forest, Ironwood, Michigan. He was self-taught in computers, and after retirement from the forest service, he was with the Gogebic Community College operating their computer lab. Later in retirement, he moved to Emporia to be near family and watch his grandchildren grow.
Robert was a member of the National Ski Patrol for 25 years. He was a published author, writing two books about the genealogy of his family: “The Descendants of Robert Stockton of Pennsylvania,” and “My Book of Memories”.
As a veteran of the United States Army, Robert served in both World War II and Korea.
Graveside services will be held at Enloe Cemetery, west of Russellville, Missouri, on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. The service will be conducted by Rev. Billy Reed. Military Graveside Services will be conducted at the gravesite.
