Robert Arthur Sweet of Emporia, Kansas, died June 29, 2024, at the Presbyterian Manor. He was 83 years old.
Bob was born in Wichita, Kansas, on February 9, 1941, the son of William Arthur and Hilda Mary (North) Sweet. He married Jolynn Mae Bishop on December 6, 1980, in Emporia, Kansas. She died on January 27, 2018, in Emporia.
Survivors include son William “BJ” (Sarah) Sweet, Emporia, KS; daughter Cindy Breeden, Manhattan, KS; sister Edith Garrison, El Dorado, KS; grandchildren Brooke Breeden, Brandon Breeden, David “DJ” Breeden, Kevin Breeden, Evelynn Breeden and Brayden Sweet; and great-grandchildren Logan Farley, Dani Breeden and Xavier Breeden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Jolynn.
Bob graduated from Newton High School in 1959 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University. He also served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967 and was a member of the American Legion Post 5.
Bob was employed at Didde Web Press for 37 years in the engineering department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed cheering on the Kansas State Wildcats, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. Bob had a passion for racing and finding ways to make the car go faster.
Cremation is planned, with funeral services Friday, July 12, at 11:00 A.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State Street, Emporia, Kansas, 66801. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
