Roberta Effie Judd, 90, of Emporia, Kansas, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.
Roberta Effie Boles was born May 30, 1924 in Greenfield, California, the daughter of Edward L. and Edith (Fillmore) Boles. She moved to Kansas with her parents when she was only a few months old.
She attended grade school and high school in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, and graduated from Chase County Community High School in 1941. She worked at Hoover Plumbing, Jarvis Market, and Parks Variety Dime Store before moving to Long Beach, California in 1943, and worked in the Fiscal Office at the L.A. Port of Embarkation.
In 1944, when her future husband Gene was scheduled to return from overseas, Roberta returned to Kansas. He was sent to India, so wedding plans were again delayed. She worked at the Ration Board and was made Chief Clerk shortly after starting to work.
Gene returned from the Air Force, and they were married on October 11, 1944 in Emporia. She joined Gene in Missouri in December 1944, and when he was discharged in 1945, they returned to Cottonwood Falls. After her children began school Roberta was employed at Kansas Power & Light, where she worked for 26 years, retiring in January1984. After Gene’s death in 2000, Roberta moved to Emporia in 2003 to be near her daughter, Connie.
Roberta is survived by: her son, Bob Judd and wife, Ann, of Liberal, Kansas; her daughter, Connie Corcoran and husband, Robbie, of Emporia; her grandchildren, Stefanie Stolpa and husband, John, of Denver, Colorado, Kimberly Kay Specht of Hoisington, Kansas, Alex Judd and wife, Nicole, of Shawnee, Kansas, and Kevin Michaelis and wife, Hope, of Russell, Kansas; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; stepmother, Thelma Boles; and a granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Judd.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Bazaar Cemetery in Chase County, Kansas. Bob Judd of Liberal and Joe Stout of Bazaar will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening, July 29, 2014 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
