Robyn Dawn Bechtel

Robyn Dawn Bechtel, 54, of rural Hartford passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at her home after a two-year battle with liver cancer.

Robyn was born on July 13, 1964 in Sterling, Kansas the daughter of Bobby and Karen Vincent Barker.  She graduated from Sterling High School in 1982.  She then attended Emporia State University on a bowling scholarship and graduated in 1986.  On April 23, 1988 Robyn married Steve Bechtel in Emporia who she met at a college final.  He survives.

Surviving family members include: husband, Steve Bechtel of Hartford; sons, Richard Bechtel and wife Shelly of Lebo, and Preston Bechtel of Topeka; parents, Bobby and Karen Barker of Sterling, Kansas; brother, Alan Barker and wife Dorothy of Cheney, Kansas.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents Walter & Billie Vincent, and L.R. & Ruth Barker.

Upon graduation from ESU she worked for Financial Guardian in Wichita.  She moved back to Emporia and worked for Emporia Motor Freight.  She later worked for Dolly Madison Bakery in the office.  Robyn was a certified city clerk for the City of Olpe after leaving the bakery.  She also worked several positions at ESU.  Robyn and her husband owned and operated Steve’s Trash Service since 1992 where she was the office manager until her death.

Robyn served on the USD 252 Southern Lyon County site committee of which the new Hartford High School and Olpe gymnasiums was built.  She served on the USD 252 recreation board.  She had also served as a secretary for the Tuesday night bowling league.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 10, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, Emporia with burial following at the Maydale Cemetery south of Olpe.  Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.  Memorial contributions to Hand in Hand Hospice can be sent in care of the funeral home.
