Roger Dale Potter of Rural Emporia passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at his home. He was 77.
Roger was born on January 14, 1948, at his grandma's house in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, the son of Carl Welda and Hawa M. North Potter Beyer. He married Beverly Masoner, the love of his life, on August 26, 1967, in Cottonwood Falls. They were married for 58 years.
Surviving family members include: wife, Beverly Potter of Emporia; son, Roger D. Potter, Jr. of Emporia; daughter, Shalla R. (Robert) Bennett of Emporia; granddaughters Elleana and Emeil Bennett both of Emporia; brother, Kim Potter of Buffalo, Kansas; sisters, Carla Bailey of Topeka, Brenda Ryno of Emporia, and Vicki Jacobs of Emporia.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim Potter and sisters, Sharon Carr and Penny Potter-Lanzrath.
Roger was a lifelong Cattleman. He loved to be on horseback in the Flint Hills. He always said that was his church. Roger had an innate ability to find a sick cow in a pasture full of cattle. He rarely missed one. He was a fiercely loyal friend, son, husband, father, brother, and uncle. His friends were like family, ranging from county commissioners to the salt of the earth. Roger was very active in the community as a past 4-H Beef leader, a member of the Saffordville United Methodist Church, past master of the Saffordville Masonic Lodge #395 and past master of the Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, past president of Lyon County Fair Board, member of Flint Hills Beef Fest and president of Lyon County Rural Water District #2.
Cremation is planned with the Visitation from 6:00 to 8:00pm, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Anderson Building at the Lyon County Fair Grounds with the Memorial service at 2:00pm, Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Saffordville United Methodist Church, Toledo with burial following at the Hillside Cemetery.
