Rolland Neil Gibson of Emporia died on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia. He was 96.
Rolland was born on November 3, 1921 in Mercedes, Texas the son of Wallace E. and Hazel F. Pearce Gibson. He married Carrie Burris on July 10, 1945 in Emporia. She died on July 2, 2016 in Emporia.
Surviving family members include: sons, Roland “Ronnie” C. Gibson of Sedan, Kansas and Jimmy D. Gibson and wife Donna of Berryton, Kansas; daughter, Peggy L. Barnhart and husband Robert of Emporia, Kansas; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carrie, brothers Curtis G. Gibson and Donald W. Gibson, great-grandson Ty Barnhart.
Rolland owned and operated Gibson Brothers Hay and Grain and also Gibson Recycling in Emporia. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion, and Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 A.F. & A.M.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia with military honors by Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion.
