Ronald Dean Brockelman of Emporia passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at his home.  He was 86.

Ron was born on March 1, 1938, in Council Grove, Kansas, the son of Clifford and Alberta Longbine Brockelman.  He married Lina Muller on January 25, 1962, in Mannheim, Germany.  They later divorced.  He then married Jean Eunice Farley on January 15, 1985, in Council Grove, Kansas.  She died on March 11, 2021, in Emporia.

Surviving family members include his sons, Franklin Lee Brockelman of Lampe, Missouri, and Ronald Allen Brockelman of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; stepson, James Farley Sutton of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; daughter, Nancy Ann Brockelman of Mora, Minnesota; stepdaughter, Michaele Dawn Metts of Emporia; grandchildren, Joshua Perry, Jacob Lindgren, Johnathan Lindgren, Julia Lindgren, Jessica Schlag, Joanna Lindgren, Ryan Brockelman, Mandy Calderwood, Linda Donovan, Rachel Brockelman, Heidi Micciche, Tory Sutton, Brett Sutton, Brittany Sweat, and A.J. Metts, and seventeen great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Brockelman of Independence, Missouri; sisters, Viola Jeanie Emley of Kimberling City, Missouri, Sherry Stahl of Dwight, Kansas, Linda Becker of Topeka, and Judy Shilling of Manhattan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean, and his granddaughter Diana Brockelman.

Ron served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1981 and retiring as Sergeant Major.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Emporia, Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Special Forces Association, Purple Heart Association, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veteran of Foreign Wars with burial and Military Honors by Special Forces 12th, Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veteran of Foreign Wars and Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion at the Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Emporia.  Memorial contributions to Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veteran of Foreign Wars   can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
