Ronald Lee Childers of rural Allen died at his home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. He was 76.
Ron was born on October 30, 1948, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Frank A. and LaVeda (Jones) Childers. He married Anita Bush on June 29, 1968, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia and were married for 56 years.
Surviving family members include his wife Anita Childers of the home; daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Shaffer of Osage City, Rhonda (Luke) Adkins of Eureka, and Tracey (Dustin) Allen of Osage City; grandchildren, Dalton Shaffer, Dylan Shaffer, Caden Adkins, Cole Adkins, Cord Adkins, and Madisyn Allen; brother, LeRoy (Marge) Childers of Iowa Park, Texas; nieces Shannon Koebel and Tricia Nicolois of Austin, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Ron worked 18 years for Sauder Tank in Emporia before going to work for the City of Emporia and retired as Public Works Director in 2015. He served in the United States Army from March 20, 1968, to February 28, 1974. He was a Life Member of the Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion. He was an active member of the Quail Unlimited and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Ron was his granddaughter's #1 fan because grandpa never missed a game.
Cremation is planned with a Visitation on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. A private service will be held at a later date.
