Ronald J. Ross, son of the late Mazie (Williams) and Irvin Ross, died peacefully in Venice, Florida on November 28, 2011. He suffered a stroke November 20, 2011.

Ron was born in Haviland, Kansas, December 7, 1928. He attended Haviland Grade School and Friends Bible College/Academy. After marrying the late Norma Jeanne Ross (Smith), they lived in Haviland, Kansas operating the R-Lazy-R Ranch for many years.

After many years of farming, traveling, and setting up residence in Manhattan, Kansas, where Norma taught at Kansas State University, Ron and Norma retired. The Rosses moved to Sarasota, Florida where he made friends at every corner and crossroad he approached. Ron enjoyed his last years being involved in the many Tortuga Condominium activities and staying in touch with his family and friends from the R-Lazy-R farming days.

He is survived by: three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pamela Ross, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Patricia and Brad Whitney, Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Ronda and Keith Philpott, Olathe, Kansas; one grandson, Brock Whitney, Fairfield, Texas; one granddaughter and spouse, Regena and Gary Bryant, Mustang, Oklahoma; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Cameron Bryant, also of Mustang, Oklahoma. Additionally, he is survived by his older brother and sister-in-law, Milton and Wynona Ross, Haviland, Kansas; his younger sister, Naomi Littlefield also of Haviland, Kansas; along with special nieces, nephews, and spouses.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Ross Schlender; and one grandchild, Sarah Kate Whitney.

Funeral services will be held at Roberts-Blue Funeral Home in Emporia, Kansas on Saturday, December 3, 2011 with family visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:30 a.m. The service will be conducted by Pastor Charity Sandstrom, First Friends Church, Emporia. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
