Ronald Francis Thompson, 78, of Hillsboro, Kansas died on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Hillsboro Community Hospital, Hillsboro.
Ron was born on July 30, 1939 in Goodman, Missouri the son of Jesse Woodrow LeRoy and Grace Mildred Mitchell Thompson. He married Colleen Kay Tomlinson on May 5, 1959 in Eureka, Kansas. They divorced. He later married Patricia Joan Holt on June 17, 1984 in Pretty Prairie, Kanas. They also divorced.
Surviving family members include: daughters, Vickie C. (Vincent) Schroeder of Marion, Kansas, and Gale M. Walker of Homer, Alaska; stepdaughter, Suzanne Gardenhire of St. Louis, Missouri; brothers, Wesley L. (Joy) Thompson and Steven L. (Michael) Thompson both of Alvin, Texas; sisters, Rose Mary (Kenneth) Lamson of Goodrich, Texas, and Georgia Kay Gillean of Dalton, Georgia; grandchildren, Dac Walker, Claire Scott, Ashley Chambers, and Nathan Ensz; step-grandchildren, Misty Hett, and Jason Schroeder; great-grandchildren, Evie Chambers, Chase, Julianna, and Hudson Walker; step-great-grandchildren, Brittany Hett, and Koby Hett;
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth Leon Thompson, sister Shirley Jean Schuenemann, and stepson Stephen Holt.
Ron worked for 35 plus years at Vektek in Emporia and also owned his Welding Shop in Americus. He also served in the National Guards for 19 years.
Ron donated his body to medical research at the University of Kansas Medical Center. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 23, 2017 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 229 Walnut, Marion, Kansas.
