Roy E. Helums, 81 of Emporia, Kansas died Friday, December 22, 2017 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.
Roy was born January 12, 1936 in Norwood, Missouri the son of Noel and Verba (Hurt) Helums. He worked in maintenance at the Kansas Turnpike Authority for 23 years. Retiring 24 years ago. Roy served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Roy married Mildred Smith in Nevada, Missouri on December 8, 1957. She preceded him death. He is survived by daughters Pam Helums and Peggy Shane both of Emporia, sisters Shirley Jenkins of Nevada, Missouri, Faye Baker of Visalia, California, Thelma Fisk and Pauline Clark both of Norwood, Missouri, 3 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death his parents, wife, brother Robert Helums and sisters Ruby Phillips and Wanda Helums.
Cremation is planned. Inurnment will be at a later date.
