Roy A. Johnson, 88, of Emporia, Kansas, died on August 17, 2011 at his apartment in Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Roy was born November 29, 1922 in Shambaugh, Iowa, the son of Roy Allen and Ethel Young Johnson. He married Maurine Duncan at the First United Methodist Church in Emporia on June 17, 1949. Maurine died on November 15, 2003.
Roy is survived by: daughters, Linda Metcalf and husband Dwight, and Denise Page and husband Richard, both of Emporia; companion, Joan Shumate of Emporia; grandchildren, Chris Metcalf and wife Lindsay of Wichita, Kansas, Tara Jackson of Emporia, Tony Metcalf and wife Abby of Overland Park, Kansas, Justin Page of Kansas City, Kansas, Daniel Page of Emporia, Whitney Page of Lawrence, Kansas, and Tanner Page of Emporia; great-grandchildren, Chloe Jackson of Emporia, Walker Metcalf of Wichita, and Mick Metcalf of Overland Park; brother, Kenneth Johnson, and wife Joyce of College Springs, Iowa; sister, Ruth Tritsch and husband Charles of College Springs, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his wife Maurine; their daughter Debra Deaun in 1962; a son, Roy Alan in 1971; and his sister, Iona Lung.
Roy served in the Army Air Force from December 27, 1941 until September 12, 1945. From 1945 to 1971, Roy worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and also sold insurance from 1960 until 2000. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Emporia, Evening Kiwanis, Emporia Masonic Lodge #12 A.F. & A.M., and Arab Shrine.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Jeannie Jensen and Butch Ritter. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military honors by Lowry-Funston Post #1980 and Ball-McColm Post #5 American Legion. A visitation will be from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday evening, August 19, 2011 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
The family requests no flowers, with the memorial contributions to First United Methodist Church, Emporia State University, or Hand in Hand Hospice sent in care of the funeral home.
