Roy Lew Stanton, Sr. 75 of Emporia died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.
Roy was born February 8, 1942 in Burlington, Kansas the son of Bruce William and Emma Jane (McCullough) Stanton. He owned and operated Stanton Feed & Seed store in Emporia, then spent many years as a truck driver for Fanestils, and Evco Wholesale Foods. Later in life he worked as a forklift operator for Hopkins Manufacturing before his retirement. Roy was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia, Men’s Garden Club and the Emporia Farmer’s Market.
Roy married Eleanor Holmes on April 7, 1963 in Hartford, Kansas and they later divorced. He is survived by a companion Carol Lingo of Emporia, sons Roy Stanton, Jr of Emporia, Ray Stanton of Emporia, daughter Rachelle Garrison and husband Marty of Rockwell, Iowa, brother David Stanton of Garnett, Kansas, sister Roberta Jones of Springfield, Missouri, 5 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bruce Vernon Stanton and William Stanton, and sister Connie Baker.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 21, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia. Pastor Gene McIntosh of the church will be officiating. A private family inurnment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sigma Tau Gamma Scholarship Fund at ESU Foundation or Hydrocephalus Association and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
