Rubie Lee Vahsholtz, 83, of Emporia, Kansas, died on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
Rubie was born on June 5, 1931 in Geneva, Alabama, the daughter of Lee Roy and Cozie Owens McDuffie. She married Alfred Vahsholtz on August 16, 1958 in Emporia. He died on September 14, 2003 in Emporia.
Surviving family members include: daughters, Sharon Schmidt and husband Warren of Hartford, Kansas, and Connie Pitts and husband Dale of Emporia; son-in-law, Dan Shadoin of Spencer, Indiana; grandchildren, Nathan Schmidt, Jason Schmidt, Daniel “Robbie” Shadoin, Abigail Yount, Steven Shadoin, Jared Shadoin, Crystal Pitts, Crystina Pitts; fourteen great-grandchildren; and sisters, Helen Palmer of California, and Frances Ruby of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Barbara Shadoin; brothers, Maxwell McDuffie, and Abel “Manny” McDuffie; and sisters, Minnie McDuffie, and Virginia Roberts.
Rubie was a homemaker, caregiver, and waitress, and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 16, 2015 at Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, south of Emporia.
The visitation will be from 6:30P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday evening, January 15, 2015 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. A memorial has been established to Hand in Hand Hospice or the Buck Animal Welfare Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
