Ruth M. Henrikson

Ruth M. Henrikson, 95, Emporia, Kansas, died Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor.


Ruth M. Jones was born July 24, 1915, at Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Gomer “Casey” and Oma (Tweedy) Jones. She married Merle L. Henrikson at Emporia, Kansas on November 12, 1939. He died September 27, 1990.


Surviving family members include: her daughter, Marilee R. Donaldson, Plano, Texas; two sons, Dr. Duane M. Henrikson and Dr. G. Warren Henrikson, both of Emporia, Kansas; a brother, Willard G. Jones of Greely, Colorado; and nine grandchildren, Kristin Henrikson Mohn, Lisabeth A. Henrikson, Todd D. Henrikson, Sarah Henrikson Dugan, Jon C. Henrikson, Jason M. Henrikson, Alicia Henrikson Huston, Melody Donaldson Adams, and Amy Donaldson Wiesner.


Mrs. Henrikson was a graduate of Emporia High School in 1932, and the Presbyterian College of Emporia on June 1, 1936. She was a graduate of the Medical Technician School at Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She began her career as a medical technician at Newman Memorial County Hospital (Emporia) where she was instrumental in starting the lab. She later worked in Manhattan, Kansas. After her marriage to Dr. Merle Henrikson, she returned to Emporia and assisted him in his veterinary practice. She later returned to the medical technician field with the offices of Doctors Morgan, Ryan, and Garcia for 12 years.


Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Emporia. She was also a member of Chapter ES of PEO, and formerly a member of the Emporia Social Service Club.


She was a tole and china painter, seamstress, and enjoyed cooking. Her hands were never still.


Funeral services will be at the First United Methodist Church, Emporia, on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. the service will be conducted by Pastor Jayne Duncan, of the church. Interment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.


The family will receive friends at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Tuesday, March 15, 2011, from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM.


The casket will be open at the funeral home, but closed at the church.


The family requests no flowers. Contributions to the Merle L. and Ruth M. Henrikson Scholarship Fund for Veterinary Medicine with Kansas State University Foundation may be sent in care of the funeral home.
