Ruth Lorain Irey, 86, of Emporia, Kansas, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Flint Hills Care Center in Emporia.
Ruth was born February 15, 1928 in Osborne, Kansas, the daughter of George and Cora Marie (Davis) Irey. She graduated from Toledo Township High School in Saffordville, Kansas, and Emporia State University with a Master’s Degree in Library Science.
Ruth had worked as a librarian at Shawnee County Library and also at the State Capitol in Topeka, Kansas. Ruth was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church in Emporia.
Ruth is survived by: brothers, George E. Irey of Long Beach, California, and John S. Irey and wife Phoeba of Menifee, California; sister, Lola Hess and husband Glen of Topeka; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Helen Prosser.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday July 2, 2014 at First Church of the Nazarene in Emporia. Chaplain Gene Grounds of McKinney, Texas will be officiating.
