Ruth M. Storrer, 88,of Virgil, Kansas passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Holiday Resort, Emporia.

Ruth Marie Christy, the daughter of Daniel Phillip and Faye Lingenfelter Christy, was born September 18, 1925 on the family farm in rural Coffey County. She graduated high school and received her teaching certificate from K.S.T.C. She taught in several rural schools in Coffey County.

On July 24, 1946, she married Reldon Storrer in Burlington. After her marriage she and her husband farmed. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1997.

Surviving members of the family include: two sons, Roger Storrer and Ronald “Ron” Storrer, both of Emporia; two brothers, Daniel Christy of Iola, Kansas and Calvin Christy of LeRoy, Kansas; two grandsons, Jesse Reldon Storrer and James Lee Storrer, both of Emporia; and three great-grandchildren, Paul Michael Johnson, Joseph Storrer, and Brenna Storrer.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Royce Christy; and one sister, Phyllis Storrer.

Ruth was a member of the Virgil United Methodist Church, Virgil United Methodist Women, and Royal Neighbors of America. She had lived on the family farm for 67 years, and enjoyed reading and sewing with the church women’s group, and enjoyed watching KU basketball.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Virgil United Methodist Church. Pastor Warren L. Olson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Virgil Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the service time.
