Ruth L. Sumner, 88, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. Cremation is planned.
  
  
  The memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Emporia Presbyterian West Campus, Westminster Presbyterian Church building, 1702 W. 15th, Emporia. Pastor Ron Phelps and Pastor Mike Sorsen will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 A.M. until the service.
  
  
  Memorial contributions to the Presbyterian Women’s Association may be sent in care of the funeral home.
  
  
  Ruth LaVerne Brandt, the daughter of Andrew J. and Ethel A. Mechtley Brandt, was born January 28, 1926 in Emporia. She married Edward Henry Eccles, Jr. on October 13, 1945 in Flagstaff, Arizona. He died April 25, 1969 in Emporia. She later married Lee Sumner on October 21, 1981 in Emporia. He died February 21, 1984.
  
  
  Surviving members of the family include: one son, Richard E. Eccles of Clarksville, Tennessee; one daughter, Luella Brazeal of Kansas City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Matt Brazeal, James Brazeal, Stacy Payne, Wendy Eccles, Christopher Eccles, Donald Hutchinson and Brandt Hutchinson; and nine great-grandchildren.
  
  
  Ruth was preceded in death by her two husbands, and a daughter, Bronwyn R. Hutchinson.
  
  
  Ruth worked in the accounting department for West America Security and then worked for Didde-Glaser until she retired in 1975. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Ball-McColm Post #5 Auxiliary, Newman Regional Health Auxiliary, Presbyterian Women’s Association, and several bridge clubs in Emporia.
