Ruth Dickson Symmonds Lyddane

Ruth Lyddane of Admire, Kansas, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor in Emporia. She was 92.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Ruth Dickson, the daughter of Elizabeth and Matthew Dickson, was born February 18, 1919 in the Dickson farm house, south of Admire, Kansas. She married Harold N. Symmonds in 1943 in Miller, Kansas. He died in 1978. Children are Alice Campbell and husband Joe of Manhattan, Kansas; Robert Symmonds and his deceased spouse Valerie of Emporia; Wayne Symmonds and wife Anna of Admire; and Rodney Symmonds and wife Lois of Reading, Kansas. This marriage produced ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren.

In 1984, Ruth married Earl G. Lyddane. He died in 2005. Stepchildren include Jerri Hefling and her husband Jerry, of Paola, Kansas; and Earl W. Lyddane of Admire; five step-grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Esther Lemke, Bend, Oregon; Augusta Shepherd of Emporia; and Naomi Snyder and husband Bill of Emporia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by two brothers, Hiram Dickson and Thomas Dickson. Ruth loved and appreciated family and friends, and devoted much time and attention to these relationships, which she valued immensely.

Ruth was a woman of faith who believed in and trusted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and strived throughout her life to live a Christian life. Ruth was a lifelong and active member of the Admire United Methodist Church and was active in Admire Methodist Women.

Ruth taught school at the North Pole in Wabaunsee County, at #100, Plymouth , and #4 (Duck Creek) in Lyon County. After raising her children, she worked at S&S Oil & Propane Co. for many years. Ruth was a member of the North Lyon County Busy Bee Club and served on the Area Agency on Aging. She also worked on the election board for many years and enjoyed attending the meals and events at the North Lyon County Senior Citizen Center in Allen.

The family will visit with friends and family from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 23, 2012 at Admire United Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Kim Benson of the church. Burial will be in the family plot at Phillips Cemetery, southeast of Admire.
