Ruth N. Turnbull, 85, of Eskridge, Kansas, passed away on September 25, 2015 at Village Villa Nursing Facility in Nortonville, Kansas.
Ruth Nadine Converse, the daughter of Merle and Nellie Hunt Converse, was born on July 4, 1930 at Eskridge. Ruth married Edwin Van Petten on December 26, 1948 at Eskridge Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on February 12, 1965. She later married J.K. “Bill” Turnbull on August 8, 1969. He died on November 28, 1984.
Surviving family members include: daughter, Chris Van Petten, Scottsdale, Arizona; sons, Dr. Charles A. Van Petten, Atchison, Kansas, Edwin A. Van Petten, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Dr. Jeffery F. Van Petten, Meriden, Kansas; stepsons, J. Michael Turnbull, Emporia, Kansas, and Rex Turnbull, South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; brother, Edward Converse, Helotes, Texas; sisters, Virginia Bohn, Topeka, Kansas, and Jane McKinley, Decatur, Texas; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers, and one stepson.
Ruth received her LPN certification from Flint Hills Vo-Tech School in Emporia. She was a member of Eskridge Methodist Church, and also the Eskridge Senior Center, where she served as Secretary/Treasurer.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M., Monday, September 28, 2015 at United Church of Eskridge. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at United Church of Eskridge, conducted by Pastor Nancy Jacobson of the church. Interment will follow in Eskridge Cemetery.
