R.W. “Bill” Wygle, Jr., 87, of Emporia, Kansas, died Monday, January 13, 2014 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
  
  
  Bill Wygle was born November 26, 1926 in Pharr, Texas, the son of R.W. and Roberta (Stillwell) Wygle. He served in U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines and the South Pacific. Bill attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, where he played tackle for the football team. He was a graduate of Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, and received his Ed.D. from The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
  
  
  Bill worked in Kansas Public Schools as a coach, principal, and superintendent. He was an administrator at the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and was the Dean of Administration when he moved to Batesville, Arkansas to become the President of Arkansas College. Bill then became President of Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma. After leaving Northwestern, he became General Manager for American National Insurance Company. Bill retired to his lake home at Council Grove Lake, Council Grove, Kansas.
  
  
  Bill was a member of the Emporia Presbyterian Church; Oklahoma Education Association; Higher Education Alumni Council; Past Lt. Governor of Kiwanis International; Past President of Emporia Kiwanis Club; Past President of Phi Delta Kappa, Emporia; Life Member of National Education Association; Past Director of Kansas Placement Offices; Past Director of Kansas Association of Personnel Administrators; Past Director of United Campus Ministries of Kansas; Past Executive Board Member of the Boy Scouts, Quivera Council; member of Executive Council, Presbyterian Synod of Kansas; Past Vice-President, Emporia Chamber of Commerce; Past Vice-President of State Presbyterian Westminster Foundation (Kansas); Council Member of Boy Scouts of America, Great Salt Plains; Executive Board, Alva Area Chamber of Commerce; Honorary Life Member, National Congress of Parents and Teachers; Honorary Life Member, Blue Key National Service Fraternity, Honorary Life Member, Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity; Honorary Life Member, Circle K International; Honorary Life Member, Iden Upper Room; Elder in Presbyterian Church; past member of Kansas Governor’s Committee on Children and Youth; past member of Arkansas Governor’s council on the Arts and Humanities; Charter member of Blue Key National Service Fraternity at Emporia State University; and served as Chairman for the ESU Foundation.
  
  
  Bill married Peggy Kaub in Hamilton, Kansas on August 31, 1947. She died May 25, 2012 in Emporia. He is survived by: two daughters, Deborah L. Brooks and Janice Jaggard, both of Emporia; sister, Lorena Hunt of Jonesboro, Arkansas; grandchildren, Becky Smith and husband Harlan “Smitty” and Andy Brooks and wife Ryann, all of Emporia; and great-grandchildren, Talia Smith, Garrison Smith, and Jack Brooks.
  
  
  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a brother, Jimmie Wygle.
  
  
  Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Dr. Bob Grover of Emporia will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to service time on Friday. Cremation is planned following the service.
