Seraphin J. "Sonny" Wendling

Seraphin J. “Sonny” Wendling, 94, Olpe, Kansas, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

Seraphin was born April 9, 1930, in Olpe, the son of Seraphin F. and Anna (Fitzpatrick) Wendling. He married Mary Brecht at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, KS, on June 3,1959. Sonny is survived by his Sons; David & Gina Wendling, Colorado Springs, CO, Scott & Peggy Wendling, Olpe, KS, Terry Wendling, Olpe, KS, & the mother of his children, Marijo Swendson, Nortonville, KS, and Brian & Jenny Wendling, Emporia, KS. Daughter; Janet & Corey Reese, Stafford, KS. Brothers; Joseph (Linda) Wendling, Olpe, KS and John (Louise) Wendling, Topeka, KS. Sisters; Betty (Ted) Lutz Black, Wylie, TX, and Dorothy Blaufuss, Olpe, KS. Grandchildren; Sarah Skillman and her husband, Ethan, Rose, Dylan, & Anna Wendling, Derek, Brian, Kyle, & Corey Jr. Reese, Andrew and his wife, Melanie, & Michael Wendling. Great-grandchildren; Kaid & Baby Girl Skillman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary. She passed away February 14, 2000. Also by his Parents, Brother; Father Francis Wendling, Sisters; Marie Russell, Lucille Trear and Theresa Coble.

Seraphin was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas. He was active in the Knights of Columbus Council of Olpe and was a member of the National Farmers Organization. He farmed the land for 88 years and was a lighting designer at Emery Fixtures for 20 years.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. celebrated by Father Mohan Bathineni. Burial will follow at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation at 6:00 P.M. followed by Rosary at 7:00 P.M. Friday evening, February 14, 2025, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church.

A memorial has been established for the Olpe Knights of Columbus Council. Contributions may be sent through Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas, 66801, which is in charge of arrangements.
