Shirley A. Bannon (75) of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Friday, May 27, 2011 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.

Shirley Ann Friesen, the daughter of David & Adina (Schmidt) Friesen, was born June 12, 1935 on the family farm in rural Newton, Kansas. She married John Bannon on January 22, 1955 in Newton. He survives of the home.

She is also survived by: two daughters, Lisa Brockelman of Phoenix, Arizona, and Deanna Defoor of Manhattan, Kansas; one son, Jeff Raymond Bannon of Emporia; one sister, Phyllis Johnson of Pocatello, Idaho; five grandchildren, Christopher Brockelman of Emporia, Michelle Brockelman of Phoenix, Arizona, Weston Defoor of Wichita, Kansas, Mallory Defoor of Manhattan, Kansas, and Jack Bannon of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella Fernandez of Phoenix, Arizona, and Caedon Defoor of Wichita, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Jill Bannon; two sisters, Erlene Borth, and Lucille McVey; and two brothers, Delbert Friesen and Donavan Friesen.

Mrs. Bannon was a homemaker, and a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Emporia, Kansas.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 2, 2011, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Father Kelley J. Lackey II, rector of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
