Shirley Ann Meyer

April 11, 1938 — September 30, 2016

Shirley Ann Meyer went to be with the Lord on September 30, 2016. She was born and grew up in WaKeeney, Kansas. She was born on April 11, 1938 to John and Frances Reitmeyer Mai. She graduated from Trego Community High School and from Emporia State University. She has resided in Sonoma County for the past 28 years.

Shirley married her high school sweetheart Jim Meyer in 1959. She is predeceased by her parents and youngest son Jett and is survived by her brother John (Margaret), husband Jim, son Jack (Margo), son Jay (Susie), grandchildren Trinell, Austin, Jett, Ahna, Jaxon and great granddaughter Akasha.

Shirley traveled extensively with Jim calling on donors and conducting Alumni gatherings for Emporia State University throughout the United States. Her favorite and most fulfilling travel experiences were a couple trips to Israel. The last one with Jim, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. She truly loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always cherished the opportunity of being a stay at home mom. Her favorite activities in recent years have included quilting, live theatre, reading the Bible to elderly individuals and Bible study for youngsters.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at Hessel Church on Sunday, October 23rd at 4pm. The burial service will be in Grandview Cemetery in rural Lyon County(1554 Road A), near Emporia, Kansas. The Service will be at 1pm on Monday October 10th. She will be buried next to her son Jett. She was a resident of Emporia for 27 years.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial gifts to your favorite charity or to one of the following: Hessel Church, Sebastopol CA, The Meyer Family Endowment Fund with the Sonoma State University Foundation or the Jim and Shirley Scholarship Endowment Fund with the Emporia State University Foundation.
