Simon P. Rodriguez, 67 of Emporia died on January 25, 2011 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, Kansas.
Simon was born on July 9, 1943 in Emporia, Kansas the son of Simon and Maria Guadalupe Murillo Rodriguez. He married Lupe Mendoza on April 29, 1967 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Emporia, Kansas. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include: sons, Michael and Stephen Rodriguez both of Emporia; grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Rodriguez of Emporia, and Yoselyn, Marcos, Ivan, Xavier, and Michael Rodriguez, Jr. of Arkansas City, Kansas; brothers, Frederick, George, and Edward Rodriguez all of Emporia, Anthony F. Rodriguez of Kansas City, Kansas, and Arthur P. Rodriguez of Wichita, Kansas; sisters, Laura Rodriguez of Emporia, Catalina Gutierrez of Topeka, Kansas, Lucy Juarez of Emporia, Teresa Rodriguez of Emporia, Elaine Garvert of Salina, Kansas, Rosemarie Sanchez of Emporia, and Anna Marie Rodriguez of Emporia.
She is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Maria G. Rodriguez.
Simon worked for forty years and retired from Santa Fe Railroad. He was later a bus driver for USD 253. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and played bass and main guitar for several county western and Mexican bands in Emporia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 31, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. The rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M., Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The services will be conducted by Father Richard Warsnak of the church. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia.
