Steve Sutton, Emporia, Kansas, died at his home on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the age of 67.

Stephen Jay Sutton was born July 2, 1949 in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Thomas R. and Myrna L. (Rodee) Sutton. Steve married Mary E. Luna at Emporia on June 10, 1977. Mary survives of the home.

Surviving family members include his wife, one daughter; Melanie A Dailey, and her husband, Michael, Raymore, Missouri, brother; Ronald L. Sutton, Emporia and grandchildren; Michael Jay Dailey and Mia Jewel Dailey.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Douglas Sutton, and a sister, Ronda L. Sutton Luna.

He was employed by Didde Graphics Corporation in the Material Control Department, and later for the Emporia School District. He was a graduate of Emporia High School and Flint Hills Area Technical College.

From 1968 through 1972 he was a member of the United States Air Force, and was a member and former Secretary of Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had also been a member of the Saint Patrick’s Day Committee and the ESPI Committee.

One of Steve’s greatest loves was spending time with family and friends. He was a die-hard Chiefs fan. Steve had a special place in his heart for the mountains and enjoyed winters skiing with his friends.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. The Mass will be celebrated by Father Brandon Farrar of the church. Cremation is planned.

The Rosary will be recited at the church Friday evening at 6:00, the family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 PM.

A memorial to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo has been established. Contributions may be sent to Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
