Sue Schafer

Sue Schafer, formerly of Emporia, Kansas, passed away on May 1, 2013 at the Council Grove Health Care Center.

Sue was born Ethel Sue Brown on September 11, 1928, to parents Howard C. and Ethel (Crawford) Brown. She attended Emporia schools and in 1948 married Clarence Joseph “Bid” Schafer.

Sue worked for various employers, including Peter Pan Ice Cream, West America, and St. Mary’s Hospital. She greatly enjoyed volunteering at the Lyon County Historical Society Archives. Although Sue moved to Council Grove in 2008, she loved keeping in touch with her many Emporia friends. She was an avid gardener, traveler, and NCAA basketball fan, and also enjoyed reading and genealogy.

Sue was preceded in death by husband, Bid in 1993; her parents; siblings, Marie, Helen, and Howard Brown; and grandson, Eric Criqui.

She is survived by: brother, Ed Brown of Oxnard, California; daughters, Janet Criqui and husband Roy of Council Grove, Joyce Morgan and husband Ron of Shoreham, Vermont, and Jill Chance and husband Bruce of Wichita; son, Joe Schafer and wife Tammy of Rowlett, Texas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Interment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Pastor Lee Hoskins of Emporia will be officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M, Friday, May 3, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
