Susan Renee Humphrey passed away suddenly on the morning of April 22, 2026. She was born November 9, 1967, in Kansas City, to John Vernon “Vern” Humphrey and Sandra Ruth (Slayton) Humphrey. She grew up in Emporia and graduated from Emporia High School in 1986. She married Chris Walburn. They later divorced.

Susan loved her family and especially cherished her nieces and nephews. To them, she was the cool aunt who always made time for the kids, making each of them feel seen, special, and loved. She listened to their stories, shared laughter, gave warm hugs, and brought fun wherever she went. Many will remember her playful spirit, her wild sense of humor, and her easy laugh. She was also a loyal friend who treasured those close to her.

She was a hard worker and dedicated more than 20 years to Simmons, formerly Menu Foods. Susan was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas Jayhawks. She was always there for those who needed her, offering encouragement, kindness, and support. Beneath her fun-loving nature was a generous heart that touched many lives.

She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Sandra Pierce of Emporia; stepmother, Marilyn Humphrey of Emporia; brother, Jeff (Kathy) Humphrey of Bella Vista; stepbrother, Brent (Brenda) Pierce of East Lansing; stepbrother, Curt (Kim) Wecker; stepsisters, Leisa (Zoe) Albers of Lyndon and Julie (P.J.) Mendoza of Emporia; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Vern Humphrey; stepfather, Larry Pierce; and stepsister, Lori (Wecker) Schondelmaier.

Susan will be remembered for her laughter, her ornery streak, her listening ear, and the love she gave so freely. She had a way of making life more fun and more colorful. Her memory will be cherished always by those who knew and loved her.

Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. A memorial has been established with the Good Samaritan Fund of the Emporia Presbyterian Manor with contributions sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
