Sylvester Rodriguez, 86, Emporia, Kansas, died Friday, April 1, 2016 at Holiday Resort Care Center.
Sylvester was born in Emporia on November 26, 1929, the son of Anastacio and Reyes (Torres) Rodriguez. He married Florence Drake February 14, 1970 in Emporia. She passed away in May of 2000.
Surviving family members include his stepdaughter, Ce-celia Parks, Emporia; brothers, Joseph Rodriguez, Wichita, Kansas, Frank Rodriguez, Emporia, and Tony Rodriguez, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sisters, Marcelina Bruce, and Florence Rodriguez, of Emporia, and Julia Rodriguez, Oklahoma, City, Oklahoma, stepsister, Mary J. Rodriguez, Emporia; granddaughter, Teraricka Parks-Klingensmith, Emporia; and a great-grandson, Williem Klingensmith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Nicolasa; and brothers, Angel, Albert, Fidencio, Blas, and Alfred.
Mr. Rodriguez was a member of the 42nd+ Constable Squad, U.S. Army during the Occupation following World War II. He was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
For twenty years, he was employed by Burlington Northern, Santa Fe Railroad.
He was a member of the Saint Catherine Catholic Church, where Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. The Mass will be celebrated by Father John Cordes of the church. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia, with military honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The Rosary will be recited at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Wednesday evening at 7:30 P.M.
