Sylvia S. Klumpe passed away at her home on Thursday, December 21, 2017 surrounded by her family after a courageous 16 month battle with bile duct cancer. She was 81.
The daughter of Elizabeth C. Decker Lantz and Melvin E. Lantz, Sylvia was born August 23, 1936 in Emporia, KS and graduated from Hartford High School in 1954. She married
Marvin E. Klumpe on May 24, 1954 in Hartford, KS and celebrated 63 1/2 years of marriage together; he survives of the home.
Sylvia was a homemaker, farmer’s wife, and bookkeeper for the Rural Water District #3 for 27 years. She was also a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, and enjoyed traveling, sewing, crocheting, gardening and canning.
She is survived by her children Irene E. Barger of Sedgwick, Daryl E. Klumpe (Bonnie) of Emporia, Brenda J. Redeker (Robert) of Olpe, Michael J. Klumpe (Cindy) of Olpe, Norma S. Davis of Lawrence, and Steven M. Klumpe (Jamie) of Wilorado, TX. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren, and cousin Ann Lafferty. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aunts and Uncles, Helen and Gail Gasche, Frank Decker, Gertrude Decker, Wilhelmina and Tom Merritt, Frances and Joseph Moy, and Carl and Ruth Decker.
The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Olpe on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. The Rev. John Cordes will conduct the service. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 7 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
