Sylvia A. Wecker

Sylvia A. Wecker of Emporia died on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.  She was 79.

Sylvia was born on January 8, 1945, in Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine Lawler Hagemann.  She married Darryl J. Wecker on April 15, 1967, in Olpe, Kansas.

Surviving family members include her husband Darryl J. Wecker of the home; son, Brad (Melissa) Wecker of Olathe; daughter, Tiffany (Tyler) Simpson of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Ellie Simpson, Aidan Simpson, Claire Wecker, and Evan Wecker; brothers, Jim Hagemann of Wichita, Bill Hagemann of Wichita, and Phillip Hagemann of Burlington.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Frank and Jerry Hagemann, sisters Kathy Hagemann and Rose Marie Nichols.

Sylvia worked in the office at St. Mary’s Hospital in Emporia before she had children.  After that she was a homemaker.  She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Emporia.

The rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home with Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Emporia.  Private inurnment will take place later at the St. Joseph Cemetery, Olpe.  Memorial contributions to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church or Prairie Paws Animal Shelter can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O.
