Theda E. Brandley, 86, formerly of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Persa Care Home in Vancouver, Washington.
Theda Ellen Elliott, the daughter of Otis and Mary McCellan Elliott was born March 9, 1925 in Olsburg, Kansas. She married Gorman Brandley in Glasco, Kansas on May 25, 1947. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1984.
She is survived by: two sons, Michael Brandley of San Jose, California and Delbert Brandley of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; two daughters, Linda Kelly of Eagle River, Alaska and Teresa Fiorentino of Vancouver, Washington; a brother, Lyle Elliott of Winterville, North Carolina; a sister, Reba Embree of Cambridge, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Theda had been a Special Education Teacher with the Emporia Unified School District #253 for 15 years, retiring in 1994. She had also taught at Pawnee Rock, Kansas and Sterling, Kansas before moving to Emporia.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emporia, United Methodist Women, Retired Teachers Association, Newman Regional Health Auxiliary “Pink Lady”, and was a volunteer at the National Teachers Hall of Fame in Emporia. She was also active in Girl Scout leadership in Emporia and Sterling.
Cremation has taken place.
The memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Pastor Margaret Gunselman of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Matfield Green Cemetery, Matfield Green, Kansas.
