Theresa Coble, 79, of Olpe, Kansas, died surrounded by her family, March 8, 2016. She was born on August 1, 1936, to Seraphin and Anna Wendling at the family homestead. She is survived by her best friends and siblings, Marie Russell, Emporia, KS; Sonny Wendling, Olpe, KS; Lucille Trear, Olpe, KS; Fr. Francis Wendling, Ava, Missouri; Joe Wendling, Olpe, KS; John Wendling, Topeka, KS; Betty Lutz, Wylie, TX; and Dorothy Blaufuss, Olpe, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Coble (2005), and by her parents, Anna and Seraphin Wendling.
She graduated in 1954 from Olpe High School. Theresa continued her education at Kansas State Teachers College. She married her soulmate Leonard on June 1, 1957, at Sacred Heart Parish in Emporia, KS. Together they founded the Olpe Chicken House. As a nationally acclaimed and award-winning restaurant, the Chicken House continues to provide quality service. Theresa served as the First Lady of the Kansas Restaurant Association from 1986-1987. For 58 years, she made the Chicken House her second home. Her passion, loyalty, and dedication were witnessed by all who knew her.
Theresa was equally committed to her family and her faith. She is loved and survived by her children: Larry (Charlotte) Coble, Olpe, KS; Dan (Connie) Coble, Emporia, KS; Tom (Julie) Coble, Olpe, KS; and Dwayne (Kathy) Coble, Olpe, KS. Her grandchildren: Sheri (Kevin) Mayer, Stacey (Andrew) Redeker, Shawn, Chase, Chelsie, Tanner (Kelsi) Kaylie, Caleb, Joshua and Lucas Coble, Ciera (Stuart) Symmonds, Jacob, Kayna and Jeron Hastings, will always remember her unconditional love. Her great-grandchildren: Dalton Mayer, Walker and Karsyn Redeker, and Carter Coble were her pride and joy. She also leaves behind a close friend and companion, Mitch Reed.
Theresa was a very devout Catholic and member of St. Joseph Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society in Olpe. She was a catechism teacher, helping prepare children for First Communion. She had a servant’s heart, helping the sick and elderly in nursing homes. The high standards she lived by served as an example for her children, grandchildren and anyone to whom she came into contact.
The family will receive friends at 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe. A rosary will follow at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 14, 2016, at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Olpe.
