Thomas Howard Dacus, 90, of Emporia, Kansas, died on May 17, 2011 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, Kansas.
  
  
  Thomas was born in Quinton, Oklahoma on November 27, 1920, the son of William Elmer and Hattie (Haymes) Dacus. He married Georgia Downing on September 17, 1951 in Medford, Oklahoma. They later divorced. Thomas later married Opal Watchous on May 27, 1973 in Coffeyville, Kansas. She survives of the home.
  
  
  Other survivors include: daughter, Dr. Laura Lee of Tulsa, Oklahoma; stepdaughters, Judy Welch of Emporia, Kansas, Janet Taylor of Amarillo, Texas, and Jerry Cooper of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas; brother, James Dacus of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; grandchildren, Brandon Lee and wife Allison of Dallas, Texas, Carrie Lee of Boulder, Colorado, and Adrian Lee of Arlington, Virginia.
  
  step-grandchildren, Lora Odle of Liberal, Kansas, Gloria Dains of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, Kristi Fletcher of Paola, Kansas, Jeff Cooper of Marion, Kansas, and Eric Steinhoff of Royse City, Texas;
  
  great-granddaughter, Lauren Lee of Dallas, Texas; thirteen step-great grandchildren; and one step-great-great grandson.
  
  
  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Lee Dacus; three brothers; a step-granddaughter Lisa Mesa; and step-grandson Russell Cooper.
  
  
  Thomas was a foundry man working for ACME foundry in Oklahoma, and several others in Texas. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Coffeyville, Kansas. From July 29, 1943 to October 14, 1945, he was a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp as a B-17 Pilot in England. He taught Sunday school at the United Methodist Church in Blackwell, Oklahoma. He was also an avid golfer and bowler.
  
  
  Cremation has taken place with a memorial graveside service to be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011, at 12:00 P.M. at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. The service will be conducted by Pastor George Boesche of the Cottonwood Friends Church, Emporia. Military Honors will be conducted by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
