Thomas Edward Haskett

October 31, 1939 — March 18, 2025

Thomas Edward Haskett, 85, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on March 18, 2025 surrounded by family.

He was born on October 31, 1939 in Parsons, Kansas to Ira and Margaret (Boner)Haskett. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his sister Nancy (Burton) Haskett. He is survived by his beloved wife Florence Marie (Rial) Haskett, children Dwayne Haskett, Sally Haskett, Brenda (Haskett) Wiley, James Haskett (Gina), Grandchildren Max and Val Merriman, Jackson, Morgan and Tom Wiley, Alex, Bailey and Corbin Haskett and great-grandson Lincoln Wiley.

Tom dedicated his life to education and service, spending 42 years as a Library Media Specialist—38 of those at Emporia High School. He earned his master's degree from Emporia State University and was passionate about sharing the love of reading and learning with generations of students. Beyond his career, Tom was deeply involved in his community. He was a proud member of Gardeners of America and a Master Gardener, nurturing not just plants but also friendships through his love of gardening. He proudly sponsored a downtown garden bed to beautify Emporia Downtown Main Street.  A charter member of the Emporia Genealogy Club, he enjoyed researching family histories and preserving local heritage. His commitment to history extended to his time as a board member of the Historical Society, and he was an active supporter of the Friends of the Library. His civic involvement included serving on the Church Council and as a former board member of the Emporia State Federal Credit Union. A true explorer at heart, he was a member of the Kansas Explorers Club and stayed active with the Emporia Rec Center Silver Dolphins. In his free time, he found joy in reading, gardening, researching genealogy, and walking his beloved dog Levi. His kindness, wisdom, and dedication to his family, friends, and community will be deeply missed.

Cremation is planned.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:30 AM with Father Nicholas Ashmore, celebrant.  Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.   The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. on Friday March 28, 2025 at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 8:30.

Memorials have been established for the Emporia Salvation Army or the John and Frances Ice Food Pantry at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent through the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
