Thomas Smith, Jr.

Thomas Smith, Jr. 96, Emporia, passed away at Manor Care in Topeka Monday afternoon, April 30, 2018.

Thomas was born in Emporia on February 26, 1922, the son of Thomas (Sr.) and Hazel (Murray) Smith. He married Ethel Smith in June 0f 1951, she died earlier, he later married Jean Smith in June of 1987, and she passed away in December of 2014.

Surviving family members include his daughters; Jane Lackey, Emporia, Marla Porter, Waycross, GA, and Liz Smith, Oakland, CA, and sons; Phillip Smith, Oakland, CA, and Dennis Smith, address unavailable; Sisters, Katherine Mack, and Pattie Hammond, both of Topeka.  3 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Smith was a member of Bethany Chapel Baptist Church, Ottawa. He was a church usher beginning at age 17 until he turned 84. Mr. Smith accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was 17.   He enjoyed riding motor cycles, NASCAR, and activities at church.

He was a butcher for Fanestil Meats in Emporia for 40 years.

Funeral Services will be in the Chapel of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Friday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor D. C. Clark, Shiloh Baptist Church, Topeka, Kansas. Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 1:00 until service time.
