Tyrus Raymond Barnhart, 94, of rural Emporia, Kansas, died on July 31, 2012 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
Tyrus was born on January 9, 1918 in Neosho Rapids, Kansas, the son of Ross and Della Son Barnhart. He married Ruth E. Keller on October 25, 1935 in Burlington, Kansas. She died on June 13, 2012 in Emporia.
Survivors include: sons, Larry and wife Dorrie Barnhart and Robert and wife Peggy Barnhart, both of Emporia; grandchildren, Ginger Williamson, Tom Barnhart, Troy Barnhart, Michelle Shepherd, and Les Barnhart; great-grandchildren, Derek Barnhart, Clint Barnhart, Kyle Barnhart, Katie Barnhart, Megan Barnhart, Brian Williamson, Rachel Krueger, Brenda Williamson, Tyler Barnhart, and Allyx Barnhart; and great-great-grandchildren, Aspen and Kassidy Krueger, and Jaxsen Harvey Williamson.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Larry W. Barnhart; a great-grandson, Ty Colton John Barnhart.
Tyrus was a welder for many years before he went to work for Kansas Soya as the superintendent from 1949 till 1972. After that, he built houses and Farmed. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Messiah Lutheran Church. The service will be conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Neosho Rapids, Kansas.
A visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening, August 3, 2012 at Robert-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, to Messiah Lutheran Church, may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
