Velma Marie Peak of Emporia died on Friday, February 22, 2020 at Emporia Place in Emporia. She was 101.
Velma was born on February 4, 1919 in McPherson, Kansas the daughter of Amby and Hazel Buckman Wood. She married Olma Peak on April 6, 1941 in Emporia. He died on May 17, 2008 in Emporia.
Surviving family members include: sons, Vic and wife Jan Peak and Scott and wife Jana Peak, both of Emporia; daughters, Ginger Morris of Emporia, and Chrysanne Haselhorst of Allen; nine grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and twin sister Thelma Taylor.
Velma was a homemaker along with working in the Emporia Livestock office. She was known for bringing meals to the fields, burning pastures, and shipping cattle. No one went hungry. She was a member of the Zenith Study Club, and the Kraft Club.
Cremation is planned with a visitation from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. A private graveside will be held at a later date at the Hillside Cemetery at Toledo. The family request no flowers with a memorial to be designated at a later date in care of the funeral home.
