V. Elizabeth “Betty” Bowman, 87, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Emporia Sterling House.
Vera Elizabeth Maninger, the daughter of Jess and Gladys Babcock Maninger, was born January 2, 1925 in Harper, Kansas. She married Alden E. Bowman on June 8, 1947 in Pittsburg, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2003.
Mrs. Bowman was a Social Worker in Emporia for 19 years, retiring in April of 1987. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Pittsburg State University in 1946. She was a member of First Christian Church, Chapter HY of the P.E.O., Newman Hospital Auxiliary, and also volunteered for various other organizations.
She is survived by: three daughters, Barbara Bowman of Commerce City, Colorado, Rebecca Naff of Lakewood, Colorado, Jennifer Bowman of Topeka, Kansas; two sons, Steven Bowman of Arlington, Texas, Brad Bowman of Houston, Texas; one brother, Hal Maninger of Pacific Palisades, California; two sisters, Ruth Foster of Gravette, Arkansas, Amy Wiles of Leavenworth, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Warren Maninger.
Cremation is planned.
The memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 14, 2012 at First Christian Church, Emporia. Pastor Bob Colerick will officiate the service. Entombment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to The Alden and Betty Bowman Scholarship Fund at Emporia State University may be sent in care of the funeral home.
