Veryl E. Barb, 77, the son of David Ernest & Evelyn R. (Schwindt) Barb, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Rockport, Texas. Veryl was born January 13, 1936 at Olpe, Kansas. He graduated from Emporia High School and resided in the Emporia area all of his life. He served six years in the Emporia National Guard Unit. He married Sylvia L. Koeneman o December 18, 1959.
Veryl had owned several businesses in the Emporia area including: Barb Sales & Service; Sunflower Stages, Inc. bus line; and was a partner in Services Unlimited, Inc.; White House Café; Liar’s Den Bait Shop; and Unique Repair. He worked as a refrigeration mechanic for IBP trucking division and was a Fleet Maintenance Trainer for Dolly Madison until his retirement in 1999.
After his retirement, he worked for Fugate Construction Co. Veryl helped to start the Emporia Antique Tractor Club and was well known as the announcer for various tractor club events. He was best known for giving free rides on his antique John Deere tractors at the annual Lyon County Free Fair.
Veryl is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Derrick S. Barb of Guthrie, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Michelle R. Barb of Guthrie; and three brothers, The Reverend Donald Barb of Olpe, Lewis Barb of Rockport, and Duane Barb of Elgin, Missouri. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory A. Barb, and his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 24, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. His sister-in-law, Lucille Barb of the Olpe United Methodist Church will officiate.
