Victor John Sterbenz, 87, of Emporia died on March 2, 2011 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor in Emporia.
  
  
  Victor was born on June 18, 1923 in Olpe, Kansas, the son of John M. and Mary Haag Sterbenz. He married Patricia Tholen on May 21, 1955 in Emporia, Kansas. She died on March 14, 1998 in Topeka, Kansas.
  
  
  Surviving family members include: sons, John Sterbenz of Emporia, and James Sterbenz and wife Kathy, of Hoyt, Kansas; daughters, Mary Morgan and husband Jeff, of Emporia, Janet Sterbenz of Emporia, and JoAnn Roder and husband Barry, of Bedford, Texas; grandchildren, Brian, Craig, and Daniel Morgan all of Emporia, and Justin Sterbenz of Lawrence, Kansas.
  
  
  He is preceded in death by: two infant brothers, Edward and Leo Sterbenz; two brothers, Alphonse Sterbenz, and Louis Sterbenz; sisters, Ida Schmidt, Laura Wendling, Genevieve Klumpe, Irene Fitzpatrick, and Clara Sterbenz.
  
  
  Victor was a custodian for 33 years for USD 253 in Emporia, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. He was an usher for the church, and a member of Knights of Columbus #1589 in Olpe. For 32 years, he bowled for the State Knights of Columbus Bowling Tournaments.
  
  
  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 7, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Father Rich Warsnak. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia, following the service. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M., March 6, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. The family will receive friends during the hour following the Rosary.
