Viola Maxine Miller, 95, of Emporia, Kansas, died Monday, March 4, 2013 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Viola was born February 18, 1918 in Allen, Kansas, the daughter of Milo and Hazel (Edmonds) Bathurst. She was a homemaker. Viola was a member of First Christian Church in Emporia, and active in several church groups. She also enjoyed square dancing and her grandsons.
Viola married John Rowland in Admire, Kansas, on June 5, 1940. He died December 13, 1962 in Kansas City, Kansas. She then married Johnnie Miller on June 5, 1965 in Emporia. He died December 17, 1996 in Emporia.
She is survived by: a Son, Rick Miller of Emporia; stepson, Larry Miller of Olpe, Kansas; stepdaughters, Linda Grunewald of Olathe, Kansas, Peggy Robinson of Emporia, and Nancy Gardner of Newton, Kansas; a brother, Verne Bathurst of Scottsdale, Arizona; two grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; both husbands; stepson, Don Miller; brother, Verl Bathurst; and sisters, Velma Decker and Varlene Best.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 15, 2013 at First Christian Church in Emporia. Pastor Bob Colerick of the church will be officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in the Council Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lyon County Humane Society or Emporia Friends of the Zoo and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
