Violet McElfresh Butter of Emporia Kansas died on Friday, July 6, 2012. She was 80.

Violet was born on January 2, 1932 in Lyon County, Kansas, the daughter of John and Annalee Tompkins McElfresh. She married Walter Rathke on June 21, 1953, they later divorced. She then married Leroy Butter, he precedes her in death.

Survivors include: son, Daniel Rathke of Emporia; daughter, Marie Bauer of Bettendorf, Iowa; brothers, Howard McElfresh, Harold McElfresh, and Allen McElfresh, all of Emporia; sisters, Evelyn Conrade, Olpe, Kansas, Minnie Robinson of Riverside, California, Grace Grubbs of Emporia, Helen Nielsen of Americus, Eleanor Kobiskie of Topeka, and Joyce Wright of Enid, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Grant Campbell of Bettendorf, Iowa, Ross Campbell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Joy, Peter and Hope Bauer of Bettendorf, Iowa.

Violet was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was the historian for the Emporia Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.).

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 12, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Austin Rivera of the church. A private burial will take place at Americus Cemetery in Americus, Kansas. A visitation will be Wednesday evening, July 11, 2012 from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.
