Virginia Lee Shaw

Virginia Lee Shaw passed away at the Holiday Resort Nursing Home on December 19, 2011 in Emporia, Kansas. She was 84.


Virginia was born on March 15, 1927 north of Miller, Kansas, to Albert Lee and Freda Castle Wheat. Virginia graduated from Miller High School in 1945. She married Chuck Kaniper after graduation and lived at Miller. They were divorced. Virginia married Charles Shaw and they lived in Osage City, Kansas, and later divorced.

Virginia worked in area nursing homes for 37 years, including Casebier’s in Miller and Westhaven, and Meisner’s in Osage City. Her favorite past-time, was playing the piano. She played in a band that played in the area and in her later years, at assisted living centers and nursing homes.
She also was an avid bowler for many years.

She is survived by: two sons, Richard and Kenneth Kaniper, both of Admire, Kansas; three grandsons, Alan, Steve and Ron Kaniper; and five great-grandsons, Tanner, Kyler, Kamryn, Koltyn and Caiden Kaniper.

A daughter, Carla Dee Kaniper, and a stepbrother, Floyd Schrooten, Jr. died earlier.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Miller, Kansas.
