Virginia M. Siegel

May 30, 1925 — June 30, 2016

Virginia Mae "Ginny" Wamser Siegel, 91, a longtime Emporia resident, passed away June 30 in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

She was born in Emporia on May 30, 1925, and grew up on a farm in the Toledo community of Chase County. Her parents were the late John W. and Katherine Jones Petford. She married Eugene G. Wamser in Emporia in 1948 and he died in 1971. In 1975 she married William A. Siegel, Jr., who died in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her brother J. Richard "Dick" Petford.


In 1944, Virginia began work as one of three employees at Columbia Building and Loan Association. She retired 43 years later. She was a member of the Social Order of the Beauceant, Order of the Eastern Star, and First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing piano, traveling, and socializing with family and friends. She was known and loved for her outgoing and friendly personality. In 2008, she moved to Wisconsin to be closer to family.


She is survived by son, Stephen (Karen) Wamser of Henderson, Nevada; daughter, Gayle (John) DeBaun of Brookfield; stepson, Bill (Sheila) Siegel of Sutter Creek, California; and stepdaughters Lisa (Jim) Howe of Plano, Texas, and Lori Chase of Broomfield, Colorado; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.


Services will be at 11 A.M. August 12, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, Emporia, with burial arrangements through Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
