Warner Reed Blackburn, 66, of Emporia, died Saturday, June 3, 2017 while competing in the Dirty Kanza 50 race.
His funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the First Baptist Church 8th and Constitution. Pastor Chester Morris of the Church of the New Covenant will officiate. The family will meet with friends Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett. The committal service will be 12:30 P.M. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Graceland Cemetery in Meade, Kansas with Rev. Jim Harrelson officiating. Memorial donations to Dirty Kanza may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett.
Warner Reed Blackburn, the son of Warner Harold and Mary Louise Reed Blackburn was born June 10, 1950 in Stafford. He married Rhnae Finlay on July 18, 1971 in Meade. She survives of the home.
Other surviving members of the family include, three sons, Jason Reed Blackburn of Green, Brent Thomas Blackburn of Raleigh, NC, and Tyson Lane Blackburn of Wichita; two sisters, Mary Kathrine Witwer of San Antonio, Texas and Barbara Chiles of Olathe; five grandchildren, Mattie Blackburn, Hayden Blackburn Taylor Blackburn, Sullivan Blackburn and Maxwell Blackburn also survive.
Warner was a case manager at Cross Winds, formerly the Mental Health Center of East Central Kansas. He was very committed to the families he served. Warner found his strength, joy and wisdom through his relationship with Jesus Christ his Savior. He was a member of the Church of the New Covenant and was an active participant in the Dirty Kanza races.
