Warren Wayne Thomas, 66, died at his home in Emporia, Kansas, on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, after battling cancer the last two years.
Warren was born September 27, 1946 in Berryville, Arkansas, the son of William Hugh and Stella Irene (Babcock) Thomas. Number 11 of 12 children, he was raised with his sister LaVonne in Wetmore, Colorado after his parents died.
He graduated from Florence High School in Florence, Colorado. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967, serving in Vietnam and Germany. Warren moved to Emporia in 1973. He worked for I.B.P, Bunge, Dolly Madison, and the City of Emporia; BRB Contactors in Topeka, Kansas, and in September, retired from Michels Corp in Topeka, after working with them for 12 years. Warren was a member of the Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, Emporia, and Veteran's of Foreign Wars, Post #7957.
Warren married Lonna K Greig on July 30, 1976 in Emporia, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include: a daughter, Amy Irene Jackson and husband Ryder of Reading, Kansas; two sons, Floyd Hugh Thomas and wife Tammy of Emporia, and Justin Charles Thomas and companion Shelley Graham of Chattanooga, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Taylor Cheyenne Thomas and Logan Wayne Thomas, both of Emporia, and Abby Graham of Chattanooga; his in-laws, Charles and Edith Greig of Emporia; a special nephew, Eddy Hall of Olathe, Kansas; several special nieces; his sister he was raised with, LaVonne Fetty and husband Carl of Pueblo, Colorado; brother, Marvin Thomas of Oak Grove, Missouri; two other sisters, Fay Barry of Blue Springs, Missouri and Wilma Krueger of Parsons, Kansas. Also three brothers-in-law and their wives; two sisters-in-law and spouses; many, many nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends, Darlene Gordon of Neosho Rapids, Kansas, and Rich Ufford and family of Overbrook, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Vel Petersen, Jean Martin, Bertha Ford, and Ione Thomas; and three brothers, Cloyd Thomas, Leo Thomas, and Calvin Thomas.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, will be officiating. Military Honors by: Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
