Wayne "Ernie" Ernest Herrick

September 3, 1938 — December 30, 2011

Wayne Ernest “Ernie” Herrick, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at his home Friday, December 30, 2011 at the age of 73.


“Ernie” was born September 3, 1938 in Emporia, the son of William Wayne and Emma Amelia (Jackson) Herrick. He married Melba Pauline Simmons in Emporia in 1960. They later divorced. He married Ruby Lee Lindsey Hardung December 24, 2001 in Olpe, Kansas. She died February 10, 2011.


Surviving family members include: his daughters, Patty (Dennis) Delmott, Emporia, and Cheryl (Martin) Alvarado, Emporia; grandchildren, Skyler and Asher Delmott, and Japheth and Briana Alvarado.


He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Dorothy Hollar.


Until his retirement, Mr. Herrick was an Industrial Engineer with Didde-Glasser Corporation (later Didde Graphics) for forty years. In his retirement, he and his wife made and sold jewelry at craft fairs and bluegrass festivals.


Cremation is planned.


Memorial services will be held at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Al Areheart, Twelfth Avenue Baptist church, Emporia. At a later date, inurnment will be in Americus Cemetery, Americus, Kansas.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until service time.
