Wayne Gatewood, Emporia, Kansas, died at his home Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the age of 91.
Wayne Gatewood was born north of Emporia on September 2, 1920, the son of Roy and Grace (Stead) Gatewood. He married Joan Butler on May 10, 1941 at the Butler family home. Mrs. Gatewood survives.
Other surviving family members include his daughter, Cathy Gatewood, Oswego, Kansas; sons, Michael Gatewood, Emporia, Steven Gatewood, Reading, Kansas, and Jim Gatewood, Galva, Kansas; stepdaughter, Margaret Hailey, Depot Bay, Oregon; sister, Betty Germond, Depot Bay, Oregon; nine grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Mr. Gatewood was a farmer for 80 years, and had retired five years ago. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dunlap, Kansas, and the Dunlap Men’s Brotherhood.
Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church, Americus, Kansas on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 10:00 AM. The service will be conducted by Pastor Gina Gile of the church. Interment will be in the Dunlap Cemetery, Dunlap, Kansas.
